COACHES

All Surf Skool coaches are surfers themselves and are passionate about the sport.

All coaches hold a minimum of Level 1 Surfing NSW accreditation which includes senior first aid,
cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and bronze medallion certification, as well as an Ocean Lifeguard Certification.

All coaches are “Working with Children Checked” with the Department of Sport and Recreation and hold $10 million Public Liability Insurance both individually and, where necessary, as a company.

Surf Skool is run by fully qualified personal trainers and group fitness specialists so our coaches are also actively involved with the fitness industry.

All equipment is provided on the day. Our soft boards are safe and easy to learn on. We provide wetsuits; rash shirts and UV Protection sun cream.

Refreshments and merchandise can be purchased both online or from the coaches on your surfing day.


OUR TEAM

Matt Anderson
After a lifetime of recreational surfing, competitive surf life saving and loving the beach, personal trainer and fitness coach, Matt Anderson, decided to share his passion for surfing by creating a personalised, fun and effective way to learn to surf.

Matt is a fitness industry leader, he runs a team of 13 outdoor trainers, a boutique studio gym and is actively involved in corporate team building and life coaching.

Mark Costa
Known as The Surfing Sherpa, Mark has been leading people to the surf all & up & down the East Coast of Australia for many years. Mark also takes surfing tours to the Maldives & Samoa in the peak surfing seasons.

The Sherpa lives & breathes surfing lessons, surfing adventures & the true essence of surfing – Soul Surfing. Mark also looks after our surfboard hire division, as well as working in one of our affiliated surf shops.

Josh Low
A Newcastle boy, Josh loves big surf. He has surfed up and down the Australian coast and in many other parts of the world.

Josh has a degree in Sport Science and finds time to play first grade AFL between surf time and his work as a personal trainer and youth activities leader.

Trent Carn - Advanced Surf Conditioning
Hailing from Ballina NSW, Trent honed his skills surfing Lennox Point and the surrounding beach breaks. After surfing for over 20 years Trent has got the experience, energy and passion to help you increase your surfing ability.

Backed up with a competitive history which includes travelling around the globe as a professional surfer on the World Qualifying Series (WQS), Trent will definitely increase your ocean and wave knowledge and take your surfing to the next level.

Hillary Mefferd
Hillary cannot get enough of the beautiful and swell lined Australian coast. Moving to Sydney from America over a year ago, she spends most of her time at the beach or in the ocean. After surfing at various breaks around the world, her passion for travel, people, and the surf make her an enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor. There is nothing that Hillary enjoys more (well besides her own empty barrel) than the excitement and surf stoke that beginner surfers experience!
